In 2010, 8.1 million Americans were the victims of identity theft. Victims paid approximately $631 and spent an average of 59 hours recovering from one instance of ID theft. For the 11th year in a row, identity theft was the number one consumer complaint category on the Federal Trade Commission’s online complaint database.
